YOGA FOR STRESS

Stress is something that people deal with on a daily basis. It is the root cause of most diseases over a prolonged time frame by compromising the immune system. Some examples are: headaches, brain tissue damage, high blood pressure, weakening of the bones and immune deficiency. Stress happens to our bodies, minds, thoughts and behaviours in response to an event (e.g. faster heart rate, impaired digestion, anxiety, or nail biting).

Stress is not always a negative thing. It can be something that you're not prepared to deal with. An example would be the birth of a child or a change of residence.

Everyone adapts to life situations differently, and has different coping skills. This is why no two people will respond exactly the same way to a given situation. Any event or circumstance that leads to stress is a called a stressor. These stressors can be anxiety, fear, guilt, regret, frustration, anger, resentment and uncertainty.

Stress that's experienced frequently can affect your health and emotional well being in a negative way. Yoga is an effective form of exercise to reduce stress in your life.

The key to cope with stress is to obtain the best health possible. Eating healthy can increase your resistance to stress by providing proper nutrition to your organs that promote stamina.

Exercising regularly helps to improve mental functioning. It also gets your endorphins going, you naturally feel high on life. This will decrease depression and makes you better able to cope with stressful situations.

Relaxation is important. Calming your nervous system helps keep you relaxed and in a more positive mind frame. This is essential for the repair and healing of the physiological effects of stress. Yoga is one of the best methods of reducing and controlling stress. It incorporates a combination of breathing, meditations and movements that balance the mind and body
